St Christopher’s, Heritage Open Days 2021 10th, 11th & 12th September

You are very welcome to visit St Christopher’s when the church participates in the 2021 national Heritage Open Days with floral displays based with an Edible England theme. Refreshments based on Essex recipes will be available. Exhibits of local produce and Church tours and bell ringing demonstrations.

Hear our newly restored organ being played especially at a recital at 2.30pm-3.10pm (approx) on the 11th September 2021. For full details click here.

The church will be decorated with seasonal flowers, many from local gardens. The Edible England theme, will be emphasised by the inclusion of culinary artefacts and cooking paraphernalia from a bygone age. In addition to tea, coffee and cakes, we will be offering tastes of Essex recipes such as Chelmsford Pudding, Essex Cockle Soup and Essex Shortcake.

Local honey, baked goods, allotment produce and foraged fare from the surrounding countryside will be available to sample and purchase. In the small village of Willingale, unique in Essex, we have two churches in one churchyard. Enjoy a guided tour of our church’s rich heritage. Listen to the bells and see the traditional art of bellringing. Hear our recently restored Corps organ. Warren Symes will be giving a free recital on Saturday afternoon featuring a varied program of music.

Join us on Sunday morning for our Harvest Festival service when we give thanks for the Edible England that we enjoy. Willingale is located on the long distance footpath, The Essex Way. The churches afford scenic views across the Roding Valley and there are numerous rural walks in the area.
